Dogs Dinner, Roasted Ox Heart and Liver
Meat, Meat, and More Meat
Mr.R is very good at looking after our little family, so much so that it feels as though he is always in the kitchen preparing and cooking delicious food for us all.
Yesterday was a particularly busy kitchen day for Mr.R as he roasted about 4 kilos of meat, but it wasn't for us it was our dog, Barley the Lurcher.
It was when we were chatting about the oven trays overflowing with meat, and the aroma of it as it cooked, (poor Barley was almost losing his mind in anticipation of his tasty grub) that we realised that Barley eats better than we do.
Don't get me wrong, we eat well, very well, but it's Barley who eats meat - every day. He does also eat fish, eggs, and lots of vegetables, but he always without fail eats meat at least once a day. We feed Barley twice a day, and we like to give him a well balanced diet, but one of his daily meals always contains meat of some kind, usually ox hearts, liver, and kidneys.
It was a huge, and heavy bag full of hearts and liver, that we purchased from our local butcher yesterday, that Mr.R spent hours in the kitchen cooking. Well, it wasn't just the 'dog food' he was also cooking lots of food for us too, and baking bread. Busy busy busy.
Obviously dogs have a heightened sense of smell compared to us humans, so it was understandably that Barley sought every opportunity to gain access to the kitchen. Poor thing was clearly eager to get to the source of the tasty meat smells and no doubt scoff himself silly.
Mr.R usually cooks lots of food for Barley, which we then divide in to tubs and freeze. That way he doesn't have to cook every day for the dog, he just has me and himself to feed.
So, yesterday, after sending hours on and off; interspersed with various other activities one of which was playing with Barley, in the kitchen, everything was done. The hearts and liver were all cooked nicely for Barley, the bread was baked and cooling on a rack, and our lunch was ready to be served.
So what were we having for our lunch?
Meat?
Nope!
We were having a vegetable curry and plain basmati rice. Hahaha! After all of the roasting and the house being filled with the smell of meat, we sat down to a vegetable based meal. It was seriously good though, so we didn't envy Barleys 4 kilos of roast meat.
I could have shot proper food shots, as I do know how to, but I was more interested in eating my lunch.
What did you have for your lunch today?
