Baturrica, Gran Reserva, 2007
Wine from Tarragona, Spain
Wine!
Every day is a good day for some red wine.
A few days ago Mr.R purchased this bottle of Baturrica Gran Reserva 2007 for us so share.
I think he paid about £5 for it from Lidl - gotta love Lidl for their wine selection.
We liked this wine, it was nice, an easy to drink wine, well, that sounds a bit poncy, but it was - it slipped down very nicely.
Baturrica Gran Reserva 2007 is made using Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, it's aged for 2 years in oak barrels, followed by a further 3 years in the bottle before release, which makes up the 5 years total required for the classification of Gran Reserva.
This wine is a lovely full-bodied dry red, it has a light fruity nose, the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes give it a decent amount of tannins, which is nice - if you like tannins. We do.
It has a nice mouthfeel, and a good finish.
For a bottle of wine costing just five quid, it was surprisingly complex with really fruity cherry and strawberry flavours.
Baturrica Gran Reserva 2007 is definitely a wine we'd buy again.
The label on the bottle of Baturrica Gran Reserva 2007 says -
This gran reserva wine is aged for 24 months in oak barrels and matured for 36 months in the bottle, resulting in an intense ruby-red colour with a full-bodied bouquet. It is an ideal accompaniment to any dish. Due to the composition of the Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties, this wine can be stored for up to 6 years after purchase. Once opened, consume within 3 days.
Do you shop in Lidl?
